The Toyota iQ is an ultra-compact concept car unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. The car was designed by ED2, Toyota's design studio in southern France. Toyota claims it is the world's smallest four passenger car, though one of the passengers must be a small child.

The iQ concept is equipped with miniaturized technology help free up interior space. The design is intended to place emphasis on low fuel consumption, maneuverability and environmental friendliness. It also features a panoramic glass sunroof.

Production will begin in Japan in late 2008 and is believed to be the first model in a series.

Toyota unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show the production version of the 2009 Toyota iQ. The 2009 Toyota iQ is designed to obtain a five-star Euro NCAP rating and is anticipated that it will have a 100g/km CO2 emission level. The 2009 Toyota iQ will enter production late this year and will be available in showrroms from the spring of 2009.

Toyota has given the production design of the 2009 Toyota iQ its world premiere at the Geneva motor show. First presented as the Concept Car iQ at the Frankfurt motor show last year, the new model will go into production late in 2008 with UK sales scheduled to start in spring 2009.
The 2009 Toyota iQ is a sophisticated car, delivering a refined mode of urban transport. Thanks to ingenious and revolutionary packaging, it measures less than three metres long, but has a flexible interior that allows up to three adults, plus a child or luggage, to travel in comfort.

The name iQ represents what the car embodies: “i” stands for individuality, innovation and intelligence and “Q” for quality.
